LWE

The rise of cross border ecommerce has directly driven the development of cross-border logistics. Unlike the cross-border logistics for the traditional B2B businesses, ecommerce requires a very different B2C logistics solutions. It is challenging to ship individual parcels to the consumers in different part of the world with minimum shipping cost, and only those who understand the rules of the industry, and with sufficient resources are able to perfect this.

My Story

Becoming an expert in cross-border logistics

My name is Ng Chet Chiang. To friends and business associates I am better known as CC Ng.  Ten years ago, I saw the potential of cross-border logistics, and decided to spearhead this with my son Ng Shern Yau. Both of us co-founded Logistics Worldwide Express initially with offices in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur (hereinafter referred to as LWE) to focus on the ecommerce industry and assist ecommerce sellers to deliver products to the doorstep of customers located anywhere overseas.

Currently, I am the Chief Executive Officer of LWE. Being active in the business community, presently I am honoured to be elected as the Deputy President of the Klang Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCCI), as well as the Advisor to the Digital Economy Division of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Malaysia (ACCCIM). I also serve as the Chairman of the Logistics and Transportation Committee in ACCCIM.

I have been in the logistics industry close to 40 years and was one of the co-founders of City-Link Express (Johor) Sdn Bhd and City-Link Express Group. Initially, I was responsible for managing the company's financial and information technology functions. Later, I was appointed as the full-time Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer for 10 years. Prior to that, I was also a tax consultant for 20 over years after serving the government for about 8 years. All these have laid a strong foundation for my current career and accumulated rich resources for this career.

LWE is a technology-driven enterprise. The highlight of our business is how we mastered and developed the IT system that oversees and supports all the cross-border logistics processes.

Our Chief Operating Officer, Ng Shern Yau, has a Master’s degree in Information Technology from Monash University in Australia. As a very competent professional in information technology, he had served City-Link for many years and he was a member of the core team that developed its IT system. After the establishment of LWE, he has been responsible for managing the daily operations of the company and leads the team to tailor-make dynamic and agile logistics solutions for ecommerce.

After striving for 10 years, LWE has become a pioneer in cross-border logistics in the Asia Pacific region. We have offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, Indonesia, Vietnam and other places. We cooperate with nearly 40 logistics companies around the world as well. Our logistics services extend to more than 200 regions worldwide , including China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, India, South Africa, Middle East, Europe, America, etc.

Depending on the destination country, our cross-border logistics service is able to achieve a fulfilment within 3-7 working days.

LWE currently have the capacity of handling more than 80,000 parcels every day.

Since the day it has started, LWE has served more than 20 million consumers from different parts of the world.

Today, we serve more than 5,000 businesses, and 95% of them are ecommerce sellers. In addition to the cross-border logistics delivery services, warehousing, postal, freight forwarding and other solutions that it provides, LWE can also tailor the services required by customers according to their needs.

For ecommerce sellers shipping efficiency – the ability to ship goods promptly at minimum cost – is utmost critical to their success.  In the more than 200 regions around the world, there are different taxes and Customs practices for different goods.  Topping this is the complex Customs Clearance and non-uniform procedures.  All sellers wanting to expand to overseas market need to overcome these hurdles.  Any delay in delivery due to poor logistics management will seriously impact the shopping experience of the customer.

After the goods pass the foreign Customs, they need to complete the "last mile" in order for overseas consumers to receive the goods successfully. Should the customers reject the goods, the need to return such shipments will involve even more complicated processes.

LWE is capable of navigating this complex shipping maze to ensure sellers can be successful in overseas markets.

My Project

Cross-border logistics services tailored for e-commerce

Delivery lead time is a common concern for ecommerce sellers and buyers, while Customs Clearance is the key to improve this.

The range of products sold by ecommerce sellers vary in size, value and Customs category.  All these thousands of shipments need to be properly sorted and classified to meet destination countries’ Customs import clearance requirements in order to facilitate prompt clearance. The ability to identify and isolate prohibited items and  assess shipments values to meet destination country's duty-free threshold are the knowhow that LWE have mastered.

We will notify and educate our customer and ecommerce sellers in advance, and prepare them on the Customs clearance requirements for the goods they sell in advance. This also allows us to respond quickly when necessary, to avoid any hiccups.

In terms of sorting of goods, we will sort parcels according to their prices, categories and delivery zip code. This effectively improves the efficiency of Customs clearance and last-mile delivery.

In addition, LWE's system can also automatically translate and verify the delivery address of the package to meet the needs of Customs and the requirements of back-end of the distribution network in various countries.

By mastering all these details, we managed to speed up the delivery of the consumer goods.

After successful Customs Clearance, the "last mile" of the parcel delivery will begin. We have partners over the world, and the seamless service allows the parcel to reach its destination easily and quickly, in urban and rural areas.

LWE can also provide reverse logistics for returned goods from ecommerce purchase. We are the designated Reverse Logistics partners for several regional ecommerce platforms. Regardless of the product origins in any part of the world, if the consumer decides to return it, we will handle it.

To help ecommerce sellers to send their parcels to consumers in shorter timeframe, LWE provides warehousing services in various countries within our network. We have warehouses in Klang and Subang Jaya. When necessary, foreign ecommerce sellers can choose to ship the goods and stored in our warehouses, after receiving the order the goods will be packed and shipped directly from the warehouse. This will be more efficient in lead time and cheaper in term of total logistic costs.

In terms of price, lower-priced postal parcels are slower to arrive and the tracking of the delivery process is not efficient or accurate all the time. This does not meet the requirements of most ecommerce sellers.  Although some internationally renowned commercial express companies are able to provide good service and tracking, the shipping cost is generally very high and making the cross-border ecommerce purchases very expensive.

While providing a consistent delivery lead time, LWE can offer a delivery charge that is about 60% cheaper than ordinary commercial express delivery. It is undoubtedly the first choice for ecommerce sellers.

Ecommerce products can vary in size and weight greatly. We can customise the charging method according to the nature of the goods sold by the seller. If the weight of the product is very light, we will charge at lower weight break instead of the usual 500g weight break.

Since cross-border logistics generally involves different courier companies at different stages, traditionally this will mean transcribing the shipping details from one Airway Bill (AWB) to another – a process that is prone to errors.  In more serious cases, poor handwriting and lack of familiarity with foreign addresses add to the difficulties in delivery. In addition, each new AWB number will also complicate subsequent tracking inquiries (Tracking).

LWE's unique technology PRINSHIP solves this problem easily. Ecommerce sellers simply print a consignment note from the system and paste it onto the parcel. Only one AWB is needed from the start to the end as through APIs our system is fully integrated with all our partners.

LWE understands the importance of tracking queries to ecommerce sellers and buyers, and much of the research was spent on the Tracking System. The delivery information is updated on timely manner with time difference generally not exceeding half an hour and the content is also very comprehensive.

At the same time, we also synchronise with the back-end systems of the global major logistics tracking website partners, which is convenient for users to check the full information of the package.

As a technology-driven enterprise, IT systems are the blood line of LWE. We have integrated years of deep understanding of cross-border logistics and extensive experience into this cloud system and successfully established connections with other logistics around the world, providing users with better services.

The system can analyse all data and AI technology can turn the data into valuable information. Thereby further optimising the efficiency of cross-border logistics.

Recently we launched our MXM mobile application for parcel delivery. Through this application, the overall pickup and delivery situation in the field are well monitored. Near-real-time information are fed to the backend system, providing the traffic controllers with timely information in the field.  The use of map and infographics with drill-down functionality enable efficient traffic management and route optimisation of the field staff.

Data collected by MXM are further used for operations and manpower planning. Currently, MXM has been used in Malaysia and Singapore, and will be extended to other regions in the future.

LWE is also the first logistics company to partner with Malaysian e-wallet service providers. With MXM, consumers can also enjoy eCOD services. In other words, consumers who choose cash on delivery (COD) can pay with electronic wallets such as Boost, GrabPay, Alipay, Wechat, etc. This is indeed user friendly for the consumers.

It is worth mentioning that all IT systems are self-developed by our own software development team. Whenever there are updates and improvements to be made, we can process it immediately without depending on any third party and that makes our system most up to date and reliable.

From the moment that the ecommerce seller ships till the moment that the consumer receives the goods, LWE's professional resources ensure a stable cross-border delivery speed.

Ecommerce sellers can sell their goods to any corners of the world, through LWE, it can be completed successfully.

In Southeast Asia, LWE is the only logistic company which can achieve this.

Since its establishment, LWE has won numerous awards. These include the Sin Chew Business Excellence Award, the SME Platinum Business Award, the Golden Eagle Award, and the Star Outstanding Business Award.

Why Crowdfunding?
Riding the wave of the uptrend

Cross-border logistics is a uptrend industry that has emerged with the rise of ecommerce.

Google and Temasek survey reports show that Southeast Asia is one the regions with the fastest ecommerce development rate in the world. The annual growth rate in the next 5 years is expected to be 22% to 49%. Among them, the growth rate of cross-border ecommerce is 40%, which is expected to reach 60 billion US dollars by 2025.

The UPS Online Consumer Behaviour Survey released by UPS in 2018 shows that more than half of online consumers in Asia have purchased products online from international retailers. Most of these consumers buy from other Asian countries, and 31% buy from retailers in the United States.

The potential of cross-border logistics is self-evident. Ecommerce sellers know that they success hinges largely on cost efficient cross-border logistics.

As a large import and export country, China's import and export share has continued to grow. From January to October 2018, the volume of cross-border import ecommerce transactions recorded by Chinese Customs reached RMB 67.18 billion, an increase of 53.7% over the previous year. Every year, at least 5 billion RMB of Taobao products enter Malaysia.

The demand for cross-border logistics is increasing day by day. As the only cross-border logistics company in Southeast Asia with logistics area spans the entire Asia-Pacific region, LWE also has partner links in Europe and the United States. At the same time, with complete logistics channels and facilities, internal IT technology and a deep understanding of ecommerce, LWE has great competitive advantages in this industry.

Next, we will continue to develop more partnerships to make cross-border logistics deeper, wider and larger.

Currently, LWE Malaysia has branches in major towns in Peninsular Malaysia as well as Kuching, Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. We have plans to establish more offices to meet the demand for both domestic as well as cross-border logistics. Plans are afoot to create hundreds for service outlets in the next two years by collaborating with convenient stores and grocery stores all over Malaysia.

Going public is another plan for LWE in the future.

This is an industry with unlimited potential and high entry barrier. For more than 30 years, LWE has kept up with trends, seized opportunities and made full efforts to develop itself. We hereby launch this crowdfunding. I hope that friends who are optimistic about cross-border logistics will join us to jointly promote the development of the industry and share this blue ocean of unlimited business opportunities.
