Project Overview
Korean-style fried chicken topped the list of the most popular Korean foods among Malaysians, especially Muslims. However, most Korean fast-food chains focus their operations only on first-tier cities. The market potential in suburban (second & third-tier cities) is relatively huge. We had opened 7 new outlets and hit RM1.4 million in sales during the past year. Our goal is to expand into 60 outlets in the next 5 years.
About the Founder
I am Benjamin Low Keng Seng, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jinjak Chikin. I am currently in charge of the business strategies, management, and research & development of recipes.
The Story of Jinjak Chikin
In the year 2019, my partner and I went travelling to Korea. Back then, Korean-style Fried Chicken was very famous because of the influence of Korean drama and Korean reality shows. After our first try of the Korean-style Fried Chicken, we knew that it was a taste that had to be shared! There’s an idea that popped up in our mind – to make these Korean-style Fried Chicken easily attainable at all times, even in Malaysia. Hence, we started our wonderful Jinjak Chikin journey immediately after we came back to Malaysia.
In order to cater to local tastes and preferences, we focused on blending the Malaysian authentic flavour into our recipes. It took us one whole year for the research and development of recipes. Finally, we managed to invent our own Korean-style Fried Chicken with Super Ring, Barbecue, Korean Soy Honey and many other flavours.
We started with just a food truck on the Christmas Day of 2020 in Johor Bahru. We chose Johor as our first stop because we realized that most Korean fast-food chains were only available in first-tier cities. In the suburbs, Korean fast-food brands are either very limited or unavailable. Fast-food restaurants like KFC and McDonald's are often located many miles away from people’s homes. Hence, we aim to provide people in the suburbs with more food choices and convenience. The freedom to choose and to enjoy Korean-style fried chicken is not only the privilege of people living in first-tier cities.
Sooner, we realized that the storage in our food truck was very limited and we needed to restock the ingredients from time to time. Hence, we decided to transform our business from a food truck into a store after 3 months of operation.
According to a report by Commetric, the fast-food trend continues to grow in popularity due to the accelerating pace of life in urban areas. More and more people started to savour the experience of having quicker and cheaper meals. Therefore, we decided to operate our stores with the Grab & Go concept. We strive to ensure that all our meals can be served within 5 minutes, so customers get to enjoy delicious Korean-style Fried Chicken without waiting and travelling to other cities.
Since the first day of operation, we have received many positive reviews and feedback, especially from Muslim customers. We have successfully expanded our business into 7 outlets in Johor and achieved RM1.4 million in sales within a year!
Potential to Develop
Our goal is to become the leading Korean-style Fast Food Brand in Malaysia. Unlike other major Korean fast-food brands that focus their operations only on first-tier cities, we aim to provide consumers who live in the suburbs with more food options so they no longer need to travel far to satisfy their cravings for Korean-style fried chicken.
With Korean-style Fried Chicken being one of the top favourite foods among Malaysians, we target 16 - 45 years old Muslims who live in the suburbs. According to a report by statistic, the world's Muslim population is around 20 billion and Muslims makes up 63.5% of the Malaysian population.
Besides, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has revealed that the Malaysian halal market revenue was RM40 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach RM56 billion in the year 2025. If Jinjak Chikin gets 1% of the market share, the estimated revenue will be RM560 million. It is undoubtedly a huge market potential for Jinjak Chikin.
Furthermore, we persist in selling our meals at an affordable price. This is because the B40 and M40 income groups take up 80% of the population in Malaysia.
Our current revenue model mainly focuses on franchise and licensing. In the future, our goal is to provide catering services through the central kitchen business model.
We aim to focus on outlet expansion locally and internationally in the next 5 years. We will start by expanding Jinjak Chikin outlets into suburbs in Malaysia such as Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak and Klang Valley. In 2026, we will focus on expanding to other countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. Our goal is to have a total of 60 outlets in suburbs around Malaysia in the next 5 years.

Our team has over 20 years of combined industry experience and we are equipped with experience in food & beverage, accounting, management, research and development. Collectively, we believe that our knowledge, perspectives and experiences can be used to facilitate the development of Jinjak Chikin.

Jinjak Chikin 的故事
在2019年,我和我的伙伴一起去了韩国旅游。当时候,因为韩国综艺及韩国连续剧的影响,韩式炸鸡在当地非常的火。在我们第一次尝试韩式炸鸡之后,我和我的伙伴马上就觉得那是应该被分享出去的好味道!那时候,我们脑海中就冒出了一个想法 – 那就是让韩式炸鸡成为无论到哪里都能享用到的美食,当然也包括马来西亚。在我们回来马来西亚后,我们便立即开启了Jinjak Chikin的创业之路。
为了更加迎合马来西亚本地人的口味,我们一直专注于将马来西亚道地风味融入我们的食谱中。 前前后后,我们用了将近1年的时间来研发配方。最后,我们成功研发了属于Jinjak Chikin独有的韩式炸鸡口味,例如Super Ring口味,烧烤味,韩式蜜酱等等。
2020年的圣诞节,我们以餐车的模式在柔佛州开始创业。我们选择了柔佛州作为我们的第1站因为我们觉得大多韩式快餐都集中在一线城市。在乡村,韩式快餐品牌的选择非常少、甚至根本没有选择。快餐店例如肯德基和麦当劳大多都离人们的家里很远。所以,我们决定提供给乡村的居民更多食物的选择与便利。能够选择和享用韩式炸鸡的自由不仅仅是城市人才能享受的特权。
不久后,我们便发现到餐车的容量非常有限,这导致我们需要一直不定时地进货和补货。因此,经过3个月的餐车模式后,我们便决定转为门市的营运模式。
根据Commetric的资料显示,由于城市地区的生活节奏逐渐加快,快餐的趋势也持续地与日俱增。越来越多的人开始向往又快又便宜的餐点体验。因此,我们决定以Grab&Go的概念模式经营我们的门市。在Jinjak Chikin,我们尽全力保证所有餐点能在5分钟内送到顾客的手上,让顾客不必等待或者奔波到另个城市也能快速地享用到好吃的韩式炸鸡。
自运营的第一天起,我们就收到了许多顾客的好评和反馈,尤其是我们的穆斯林同胞们。仅仅的1年里,我们便成功在柔佛州开设了7间分行及达到了RM140万的业绩!
发展潜能
我们的目标是成为马来西亚的数一数二的韩式快餐品牌。有别与其它只专注于一线城市的韩式快餐品牌,我们专注于提供更多的选择給在乡村的居民,让大家不必奔波也能吃到好吃的韩式炸鸡。
韩式炸鸡是马来西亚人最喜欢的食物之一。我们的目标受众是住在乡村,16到45岁的穆斯林。报告显示,全世界的穆斯林人口约为200亿,而穆斯林占马来西亚人口的63.5%。
另外,根据马来西亚投资发展局 Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA)的统计,2021年马来西亚的清真市场收入为RM400亿。而这项收入预计在2025年达到RM560亿。如果Jinjak Chikin能获得1%的市场份额,预计收入将为RM5亿6000万。这对于Jinjak Chikin来说无疑是一个巨大的市场。
此外,我们一直坚持以实惠的价格售卖我们的餐点。这是因为B40和M40收入群体占了马来西亚人口的80%。
我们目前的营收模式主要包括特许经营和直营店。未来,我们的目标是透过中央厨房经营模式提供餐饮服务。
我们的目标是在未来 5 年内专注于本地和国际门店的扩张。首先,我们会将Jinjak Chikin分店扩张到马来西亚的乡村,例如森美兰、马六甲、霹雳及巴生谷。在2026年,我们将把业务扩展到国外,例如印度尼西亚和泰国。我们的目标是在未来5年内在乡村拥有60间分行。
