Footballhub

It is baffling that football, which is arguably the most popular sporting hobby in the country remains so far behind in the availability of full-fledged football pitches and centres.

Our story

Turning Our Greatest Passion into a Real Business

We are Justin, Massimo and Ken (from left), the Co-founders of Footballhub. Our vision is to drive revenue growth of the local football scene by changing the development of local teams and talent alike, sponsorships to teams and offering of technology. All in all, to be the market leader within our space.

Back in 2018, our passion brought the three (3) of us together founding Footballhub. And today we are operating our first facility with our technology offering in beta, AI match recordings.

Football has always been the sport where Malaysians gathered together (especially in “mamaks”) shouting to our hearts’ content supporting our favourite teams. Sometimes also, respectively giving constructive advise to our opposing supporters. Footballhub is with vision to be the household name for all football related bookings, merchandises and sponsorships in the near future. This is our first major step, our purpose of this fund raise and with deep gratitude we hope to garner your interest to move this industry with us.

Have you noticed that we have abundance of public football fields, unfortunately none of them are even maintained from the day of inception. Despite for our love of the sport, why do we lack football activities? Unlike badminton where we see court centres that are overbooked consistently, daily and in advance.

The reason of this lacking is the absence of 1) proper facility; 2) booking systems and 3) management body where people can access.

Our story: Massimo Saverio Giannelli, CEO

Hailing from Italy, he is married to a Malaysian women and has been living in Malaysia for the past 20 years.

His involvement in football started when his youngest son (11 year old then) joined a football academy in 2008. Back then and until today, it is difficult to find a slot with public fields for practice or to conduct this academy. Most fields are also inadequate for children to attend to in the evenings or mornings with our famous dengue and
water pondings.

His son became the reason of his involvement in football grassroots. Of which by 2013, he started his own academy with only 5 boys at 3K Sports Complex. Then, they had four coaches including himself. And as the academy grows, existing problems magnified.

They encountered problems related to football facilities then and now. Available pitches are unable to meet the increasing demand of players, students and training teams in the country.

Renting football pitches is so costly, and not only that it is a hassle to secure any fields from local council. As we all know, our local councils, despite the term local, each has their own standard of procedure. As a response to solve this issue, they attempted local parks in residences for training practices. However our Malaysian community dislike such practice.

Despite all these challenges, what motivated Massimo is the reward of seeing positive changes to all youth under his academy banner. They grown in both football skills and personal.

Massimo is with vision to let his academy be the platform of training young talents, identifying potentials for introduction to professional leagues. His coaches have profound knowledge of the game and are consistently motivating their students during training. Their secret is to instil confidence and inject aspiration to become better at what they do.

How Massimo notice the impact of his academy is through voices of parents’ children. They are telling others that their own kid became confident and sure not just on the field but in spaces they are attending. Once there was a boy who was not capable of playing football but now is the representative of his school’s team.

His very own 23 year old son now plays as a professional with Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA).

Through Massimo’s eyes, Europe produces great players because there is focus on youths with guided channels to professional levels. Just like other sports, talents that are spotted earlier usually result with greater potential. Malaysia’s lack of facilities crippled any chance we have to improve the local scene.

It is therefore crucial to create this opportunity by providing not just proper football facilities but framework to change our industry. Massimo promises to remain committed to promoting youth football competitions and bridge the gap between grassroots and professionals.

Our story: Justin Leow Woei Shyong, COO

Justin with 8 years experience in the local football industry organizes social leagues in Klang Valley. He started out in this business as a part timer while working with Plaza Premium. As the number of teams under his wing grew over time, he found it challenging to secure fields for his league, managing the team’s schedule and running it all together with his full time job. As such, like most entrepreneurs he left his job fully believing in his experience and network to grow the business.

His strategy was to establish his own turf. Eliminating any problems of bookings, be the master of referees and completely giving all benefits
to the customers instead of managing middle persons’ interests. This motivated him to set out looking for location, funds and partners that today became reality, Footballhub @ Twentyfive.

Fully equipped with amenities such as showers, toilets, surau and spectator benches. The idea is to easily make your booking and play. That simple.

In his peak, Justin’s league housed over 200 teams. Organized competitions not just for social leagues but also for companies alike.

Through the network of Justin’s 8 years experience, bookings of the field are pre sold in blocks, at least 3 months in advance basis. Their customers are mostly repeats as most found Footballhub’s pitch most comfortable and accommodating in reference to what is available at the moment. Good lighting, maintained cleanliness and punctual attendees are key to giving good experiences to their customers.

One football pitch has the availability to make RM 1 million per annum through selling of 128 slots per month. From the get go, when launched in April 2019, Footballhub has already achieved more than 70% of utilization of this 128 slots.

Not just constructing a new football pitch. Footballhub’s existence in Rimbayu has created new income opportunities for local communities. They initiated new football social leagues and since April until now has been consistently booking out with Footballhub to conduct their competitions. There are 3 leagues running at the same
time in Twentyfive.7 now. This number is expected to grow to 5 in 2020.

Justin boasts his understanding of the industry’s booking flaws and translated feasible solutions in the form of website. Now it facilitates over 2000 users since it was launched in December 2019.

Whereas all other centers do not yet have a functional booking system nor any presence on social platforms.

We are introducing video recording for our center to fully record the game so that the audience can watch the replay and highlights of the game. We will provide live broadcasts for other leagues by showing the football matches on internet, we hope that our players can get more online exposure so that their talents will be discovered and recognized.

Our goal is to raise RM4,000,000 through this platform. Our goal is to build and operate up to four football centers in the Klang Valley by the end of 2020. We will be able to kick start this plan, if we have received sufficient fund.

Our story: Ong Zhong-Ken, CFTO

Ken brings technology experience to the team of 3 and despite lacking finance background, uses his years of experience in managing his other startups to aid with finance management of Footballhub.

While many startups comes from the angle of spending for customer acquisition waiting for a profitable exit, Footballhub is profitable on its own from get go. Not only that, Footballhub has massive potential digitally as levels of interest with football in Malaysia is superb. To provide an overview, Capex of a million is required to construct a facility such as Footballhub Twentyfive.7. The breakeven from revenue perspective is within 13 months. Irrespective to the margins of their competitors, Footballhub achieves more than 40% of EBIT from their 10 months of operations to date.

Their competitive advantage lies in our access to technology. To elaborate, they quickly understand industry needs, price customers are willing to pay and couple all of it to be executed and running.

Come January 2020 (probably already done so by the time you are reading this), AI match recording will be introduced. Through this they are able to drive exposure of teams and talents by uploading their games/goal highlights to eyes of millions. Namely Youtube, Footballhub TV.

This enables players, teams and leagues to promote their existence and also enabling Footballhub to take on sponsorships for distribution into teams or leagues. With this unique offering, they are confident when facing current or new competitors. However this is not where they stop. Ken has mentioned future plans for franchising in order to expand quicker to gain access to even more content. With vision to be the household brand name to all football bookings, merchandises and sponsorships in Malaysia.

Why Crowdfunding?

Advantages and opportunity in crowd funding

Building a football pitch of Footballhub’s grade is high. However we did it and will continue doing it because of our combined strengths.

Justin and Massimo brings different type of crowd to the business, enlarging our audience base. Our spectrum ranges from ages of 4 year olds to 50 year olds. With this generous mix of demographics, it aligns us to our business strategy to drive traffic and crowd to developments. Giving us advantage to work with developers. Our plan is to achieve up to 8 locations in operations by 2021.

Although many competitors exists, we are becoming the industry leader by adopting technology in the space. Our feature bridges growth in teams’ exposure and couple in sponsorship to further help these individuals grow, probably to the professional levels.

According to Premier League survey, Malaysia with population of 32 million has 13.6 million of football fans and 9.4 million English Premier League fans. The market is huge.

Our business performances for the past 9 months:
-Operating revenue: RM610,000
-Utilization rate: 76%
-Foot traffic to center : >5,000 individuals monthly
(purely from field booking alone)

While we now commenced to monetize our AI match recording offering, and is witnessing explosive growth in our Youtube channel (since January 2020), could this be the drive needed to bolster local football to contend internationally?

The equation is spelled. More locations equals more matches. More matches equals more content. More content equals more sponsorship. And more sponsorship equals growth.

Founder Pitch Deck
