My Entrepreneurial Story

 

I am Tey Qi Jie (Clyde), the founder of Storming Gravity. After graduating from HK PolyU Business School, I started my career in the logistic industry, and fortunately, to be rotated through 4 cities (Hong Kong, ShangHai, Singapore, ShenZhen) with my job in the logistic company, I discovered this golden opportunity that I could not pass up, which is the empty gap of innovative and creative products sub-industry in Malaysian market. This sub-industry has been quite established in the other cities. I then decided to quit the job and started a company to fill in the gap I saw in the market. I started to learn website development and digital marketing skills on my own. With my past experience in international logistics, I created www.storminggravity.com.

 

 

Storming Gravity, founded in 2015, strives to be at the forefront of the consumer goods market in Malaysia. We bring in the latest electronic gadgets, innovative everyday products as well as modern home decors that differentiate us from the others in the market. Practicality, functionality and quality, the three core standards that we seek for in each of our products, are never compromised while we introduce these original products into Malaysia. Besides, we understand that customer service is a vital factor that contributes to building customer loyalty. In order to better accommodate our customer needs, we adopt a hybrid sales model, offering both brick and mortar as well as online stores. Every day, our team aims to create value for our customers at every touchpoint, from pre-sale to post-sale.

 

Storming Gravity’s Business Model

Inspired by Kickstarter and Indiegogo, crowdfunding platforms from the U.S where people find innovative ideas and products before they hit the mainstream; we have adopted a similar pre-order campaign for our newly-launched products since our inception in 2015. The good reputation of our company that has been built on a strong foundation over the years has continuously proven to be one of the critical factors for the success of this operating model, which yields a competitive advantage over our competitors/potential newcomers.

 

The benefits of having a pre-order campaign include but not limited to:

  • Making a better procurement plan and achieving an optimal inventory level
  • Maintaining a healthy cash flow with the deposits/advance payment received from customers
  •  Effective and efficient business model allows us sufficient time sourcing for new products as well as to focus on providing exceptional services to customers

 

 

Our Core Competence: Exceptional Customer Service

Today, with the ease of creating an online store, there are more frauds than there have ever been in the e-commerce’s world, for example, the authenticity of goods, the quality of the products and the possibility of getting counterfeit goods. Not only do frauds cost monetary/financial loss, but more importantly the wasted time and effort.

 

Hence, trustworthiness plays an essential role in an online-shopping world. Over the past few years, after having thousands of conversations with our customers, we found that there is an increasing number of customers looking for a trustable business over the lowest price available. Therefore, instead of joining in a price war to gain market share, we attract customers by providing extra value, because we believe that a community of loyal customers is essentially the main drive for a successful and sustainable business. This is the main reason for our persistence on creating a trustworthy platform and providing excellent customer services as our core value.

 

 

 

TIC Travel Bottle: Our Second Rapid Growth Since The Inception

 

One of our hottest selling products, Tic Travel Bottle helped Storming Gravity to gain awareness in the local market. Many of our customers got to know our existence through this product, and in the end, they became our loyal customers. We managed to acquire the sole distributorship of this product and by using viral marketing, we sold more than 1,000 units in a month! We achieved a RM 200,000 sales in a month, only for this product, that was back in 2017.

 

 

5 years of growth, from 1 product to about 1,000 products, today, we have more than 15,000 subscribers in our newsletter list and 65,000 monthly website visitors. Coupled with our market experience and data analysis skills, we strive to discover the latest products and to become the first introducer in the local market, which adds points to our uniqueness among all e-commerce platforms. Our market experience and accumulation of data over these years allow us to predict the trend in our industry more precisely, eventually, we have become a “Sourcing Expert”.

 

 

Where We are Now

The e-commerce sector has boomed since the pandemic and the change of market environment has become the thrust of our growth. We have achieved 75% growth compared to the previous year. This is the 5th year on our journey and we have learned by trial and error along the way, but that experience has proven to be the foundation of the success we have today. However, we are growing a little slower than our expectations, which is due to the lack of capital. With the capital injection, we expect to achieve 2.7 millions of revenue by the end of FY2021, and we are very confident that we are ready to push on to a new level - achieve a 10 million sales target by 2024.

 

 

 

Our Next Step

 

We target to raise Rm1,500,000 with equity crowdfunding, in which the funding will be allocated in the key areas below:

 

  • Enhance the online shopping experience
    We are going to revamp our website with the latest UI/UX design based on the feedback that we collected from customers. A modernly designed webpage not only can increase conversion rate, it can also attract more potential brand designers from overseas to work with us.

 

  • A second experience store
    It is undeniable that e-commerce has brought its advantages, however, some consumers may still prefer the tangible touch, especially when they consider the item as of high value. We plan to expand to Penang or JB where we see potential high demand in our products. The new store will act as a one-stop shop, where we provide a complete range of services from pre- to post-purchase/sale.

 

  • Improve marketing strategy
    With the capital injection, we are confident to improve our marketing strategy to its full potential. We are going to create more original content (introduction, user experience etc) to attract more visitors to our website. We also plan to increase 40% of our advertising budget by increasing our social media exposure and setting up pop-up stores.

 

  • Expand the Team
    The raised fund will be useful for expanding our team, such as web-page developers, marketing experts, content creators etc because only the right team/people can drive the company to success.

 

  • Operational Upgrade
    Increased working capital provides us procurement flexibility and enables us to fully benefit from economies of scale. Besides, with greater bargaining power, we also aim to achieve a higher gross profit by eliminating the middleman. Furthermore, we target to achieve “24-hour delivery” within a certain radius from our service point for ready-stock items.

 

 

The change of customer behaviour, in our favourable way, has put our company at a competitive position. A comprehensive expansion plan has been carefully crafted, with details including both short-term and long-term targets, to ensure each dollar raised is spent wisely. We have no doubt that this funding will bring us the exact resources we need to achieve the 10 million sales target in 2024. We look forward to a successful journey with you.

我的创业故事

 

是 Clyde 郑启杰。香港理工大学商学院毕业,是 STORMING GRAVITY 的创始人。大学毕业后加入了物流公司工作,期间得到公司给予外派机会,需经常出差到香港、上海、新加坡和深圳短期驻点工作。一次偶然机遇让我发现了一个不可错过的商机,使我萌生了引入新奇创新商品销售的想法。当时,这个 “子行业” 还未在马来西亚萌芽,但在国外各大城市已经蓬勃发展起来。工作了一段时间并在国际物流方面掌握经验后 ,我决定辞掉物流公司的工作,开始学习各种电商相关知识包括网页架设技能和基本营销技巧等,全心投入开创一家“为产品说故事” 的公司 - www.storminggravity.com

 

 

成立于2015年,我们是一家主打精致设计和高质量产品的电商平台,致力于发掘世界上各个角落的创新科技产品、新奇小物、特色时尚配件和高质感生活用品等。从产品品质、功能和实用性等元素上的考量,把各类出色的原​​​​创商品引进马来西亚。除此之外,我们相信良好的售前、售后服务是提高与维持客户忠诚度的根基。因此,我们配合线上与线下实体店的销售,让客户将我们所 “精挑细选” 的产品带回家,同时为消费者创造价值。

 


STORMING GRAVITY 的商业模式
受美国募资平台 Kickstarter 和 Indiegogo 的启发,早在 2015 年公司成立开始,STORMING GRAVITY 最新产品的推介都是采预购模式来贩售並在市场饱和前抢尽先机。预购模式往往在出货时效和品质方面都令消费者担忧而却步,然而我们五年经营所累积的信誉认可给消费者一种安心。因此,这也是我们与其他电商平台的不同之处,新窜起的竞争者也难以在短期内模仿及超越。

预购模式的好处有

  • 更好地规划物流运输和采购数量,进而降低了囤货风险

  • 收全款后发货的方式为公司带来健康的现金流

  • 承上,因此让我们有余裕且有效地去照顾好每一位客户的同时也可以搜罗及引进更多商品进而形成正回馈效应

 

 

以优质服务为核心,赢得消费者信任的平台

我们深知网上购物陷阱重重。假货、产品质量参差不齐等问题屡屡发生, 且产品的真实性难以判断。即便平台保证退款机制,然而欺诈行为仍有可能发生。除了钱财以外,消耗的时间和精力才是最大的损失。

因此,信任 — 在网络购物中扮演着极其重要的角色。经过这几年我们和许多消费者的交谈后发现,相比起寻找最低廉的价格,他们更倾向于在一个可信赖的平台消费。相对其他大型电子商务平台以价格战厮杀来获取市场份额,我们更倾向于提供优质的个性化服务做出市场区隔。我们坚信满意的购物体验是提高客户忠诚度唯一途径,所以在创立之初就坚持以建立一个让消费者值得信赖的平台,提供优质服务作为我们不可取代的核心价值。

 

 

过去的热​​销爆品,创造了数十万的销售业绩

 

过去的热销爆品「Tic Travel Bottle - 盥洗保养收纳瓶」,打开了 STORMING GRAVITY 在马来西亚的品牌知名度之外,也因着这款产品让我们公司掳获了一批忠实粉丝。在 2017 年,我们的采购团队洞悉产品潜力后,在一个月内火速与品牌达成合作协议并取得马来西亚独家代理权。经由行销团队的病毒式营销策略引爆产品热卖潮,在一个月内售出超过 1000 个,为我们平台业绩带来大约马币 20万 的营业额

 

 

5的时光,从销售 1个产品开始到现在管理接近 1000 个品项,我们累积了超过 15000+ 位忠实会员,网站每月活跃造访人数高达 65000+。我们一直挖掘世界各地的好产品并积极争取新品首卖,长期下来的市场经验累积以及配合数据分析找出更多消费者关注的热销趋势,让我们团队有了独特且敏锐的选品眼光。日积月累,STORMING GRAVITY 已成为我们忠实会员心中认可的购物专家。

 

 

STORMING GRAVITY 现况

疫情及大环境改变的趋势之下,使我们看见了加快发展脚步的紧迫性。 2020 年,我们的营业额有了 75% 的增长 。今年是公司成立的第五年,过去各种试错成本让我们不断地修正轨道,也成为我们现阶段稳定业务的基石。但基于资金有限、人力需求不足的考验导致现阶段的增长速度比我们原订的规划似乎还慢了一些。在 2021 年,我们预计能达到马币 270万 的目标,希望藉由资本的介入让公司走得更快更远,迅速在战场站稳脚步,並在 2024 年达到马币1000万 的销售目标。

 

 

下一步,STORMING GRAVITY 要做些什么?

 

我们这次希望筹获RM1,500,000的资金,用于扩大营运规模以及升级以下各方面:

 

  • 线上 UI/UX 优化:
    根据过往搜集客户的意见来进行网站的升级优化与改版,把消费者购物流程升级到另一个层次!与此同时,进一步扩大贩售产品种类,引入更多品牌与我们合作,进而提高成交率。

 

  • 线下体验店扩展:
    管线上是我们的销售主力,但是由于我们售卖的产品单价偏高,过去消费者不时也会提出看实体样品的需求,加上马来西亚人喜欢实际接触后才消费的习惯。因此,设立产品体验店是有其必要。目前在吉隆坡已有一家实体体验店,我们计划两年内,将额外设立第二个体验店(目前暂定槟城或新山),提供产品体验、线下取货和扩大售后服务范围为主要目的。藉由体验店促进消费者对 STORMING GRAVITY 产生好感与增加信任度。

 

  • 广告行销加强:
    过资本的助力能更好及有效地开发我们的行销潜力。预计增加百分之四十的广告投放预算,运用在各社群媒体曝光和线下快闪摊位的建立来加强推广产品曝光度。通过制作一系列 STORMING GRAVITY 出品的影片(如介绍,开箱等)加强影音流量入口吸引更多流量造访网站。

 

  • 人才招募:
    由人力资本的投入增加团队规模,招募更多的营销,客服和IT人员融入团队来实现全面的扩展计划。

 

  • 营运升级:
    充裕的营运资金下,我们可以大量采购热销产品压低进货成本、绕开所有中间商来扩大营运规模进而拉高毛利润。不仅如此,我们预计在服务据点所在地区配送速度实现「现货商品 24 小时内送达」的目标。
