The Story of Chef B 

Our journey at Chef B is a tale of growth and adaptability. We started in 2017, crafting sauces, pastes, and ready-to-cook foods mainly for hotels, restaurants, and cafes. By 2019, we proudly earned our Halal certification, showing our commitment to quality and inclusivity. 

In 2020, the pandemic challenged us, but we responded with innovation. We introduced Malaysia's first Halal instant Wantan mee, entering the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) market. 

In 2021, our sales soared by 74%, reaching RM 900k, thanks to our successful WANTAN mee. In 2022, we saw even more growth, with sales hitting RM 2 million. We served both FMCG and HoReCa segments with dedication. 

By 2023, we expanded to 34 esteemed partners and ventured into a RM 9 billion local ready-to-eat meal market. the well-known Malaysia budget airline became our first customer in this exciting new venture. 

Starting with one facility in 2017, we now operate five. We began in the HoReCa sector, offering high-quality sauces and pastes. In 2020, we expanded into the FMCG market, charting a new course. 

Looking ahead, Chef B is set for greater heights. We aim to be Malaysia's top Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for sauce-related products. 

 

Potential to Develop 

Over the next five years, Chef B has an ambitious roadmap for growth. Here are the key milestones Chef B wishes to achieve from 2023 to 2027: 


2023 - In 2023, we're focusing on securing new high-quality OEM manufacturing deals, ramping up our production volume, and expanding our production facilities, which are currently under renovation. We're also realigning our production lines and, notably, beginning production for the well-known Malaysia budget airline's in-flight meals, a significant milestone. 


2024 - Moving into 2024, we plan to further strengthen our partnership with the well-known Malaysia budget airline by increasing the number of SKUs supplied to them and establishing a solid reputation for in-flight meals catering. We're expanding our production lines to prepare for potential partnerships with other airlines. Simultaneously, we're targeting the distribution channels of three major hypermarket chains in Malaysia for our Ki.Ta brand and initiating exports to three countries. We're also exploring opportunities to provide high-quality catering services to other airlines. 


2025 & 2026 - In the years 2025 and 2026, our focus is on securing in-flight meals catering contracts with five different airlines. We're also expanding our reach by introducing a ready-to-eat (RTE) product line for major petrol stations and convenience stores. We're establishing distribution channels with five major hypermarkets in Malaysia for our Ki.Ta products and expanding our international presence by exporting to ten countries across Southeast Asia and Europe. Additionally, we're increasing our OEM production volume to serve non-airline businesses and participating in government initiatives related to noodle stalls. 


2027 - Finally, in 2027, we have a grand plan - a potential merger and acquisition or IPO listing. This strategic move marks a significant step in our journey towards becoming a leading player in the culinary industry. 

About the Key Persons 

Chef Bernard Lee 

In 1989, Bernard began his culinary journey by earning a diploma in hotel management and catering with a focus on cuisine. He honed his skills for a decade as a chef at the prestigious Shangri-La Hotel, forming the bedrock of his culinary expertise. In 1999, driven by an unshakeable passion for culinary arts, he ventured into entrepreneurship, supported by his wife, May Liyu, who shared a hotel management background. 

Their journey wasn't without challenges. After initially delving into confectionery supplies for hotel cafes and restaurants, Bernard took a bold step, entering the culinary education sector as a lecturer in 2006, a path he pursued for a decade while his wife explored her own opportunities. 

Bernard's unwavering culinary ardor led him to establish a small-scale sauce and paste manufacturing venture from 2009 to 2011, laying the foundation for what would later become Chef B. His dedication and innovation in the culinary sphere gained industry recognition, culminating in his role as a judge on the World Chefs panel for international chef competitions in 2014. 

In 2016, he rekindled the sauce and paste manufacturing endeavor, resulting in the birth of Chef B Sdn Bhd, a company now set for substantial growth and success. Today, we boast four major product lines and a promising future. Bernard's journey, from a hotel chef to a flourishing culinary entrepreneur, is a testament to his enduring passion, unwavering dedication, and relentless pursuit of culinary excellence. 

 

May Liyu - Co-Founder & Operations Director 

May Liyu, our Co-Founder & Operations Director, has over 30 years of experience. She holds a Diploma in Hotel Management from Stamford College and excels in creating various sauces for HoReCa distribution. 

 

Nur Laili Chai - Production Director 

Nur Laili Chai, our Production Director, boasts more than 30 years in the cooking industry. She's won numerous awards in world-class competitions, showcasing her culinary excellence. 

 

Fund Goals, Utilisation & Time Frame 

Fund Utilisation 

The fund utilisation plan is designed to strategically allocate funds for Chef B's growth. We will dedicate 40% of the funds to upgrading our machinery, facilities, and logistics, enabling us to enhance our production capabilities within six months. Another 30% will be focused on sales, marketing, and branding efforts, primarily promoting our Ready to Eat and Ki.Ta Brand over the next 18 months. 

To ensure smooth operations and expansion, 23% of the funds will be directed towards working capital, covering new hires and operational costs within 18 months. Additionally, 7% will be used for product development initiatives, to be executed within the next 12 months.

Chef Bernard Lee

 

 

1989年,Bernard开始了他的烹饪之旅,获得了酒店管理和餐饮专业,烹饪方向的文凭。他在著名的香格里拉酒店担任厨师十年,锻炼了他的技能,为他的烹饪专业知识奠定了基础。1999年,在对烹饪艺术坚定热情的驱使下,他决定创业,并得到了他有酒店管理背景的妻子May Liyu的支持。
